The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr 'Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus' has said he hopes the corona epidemic will be eradicated within two years.
Speaking in Geneva, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the Spanish flu of 1918 took two years to control. But he added that the advancement of current technology may not help the world control the virus in the "short term". "Of course if people continue to interact, they will allow the virus to spread," he said.
"But in spite of that, we have technology that can end the situation, and education on how to end the infection," he said, emphasizing the importance of "national unity, global solidarity". The 1918 flu killed nearly 50 million people worldwide. Coronavirus has so far killed nearly 800,000 people and nearly 23 million others infected with the virus.
