As the chances of his re-election dwindle as more votes are counted in the remaining few states, US President Donald Trump has begun a fierce attack on the country's democratic electoral system.
President Trump has claimed that the election was "rigged" to deny him victory. Without providing any evidence, Trump accused election officials of fraudulent allegations in states whose counting operations marked victory for his rival Joe Biden.
Biden, who is a former vice president, was approaching Trump by a majority of votes in the states of Pennsylvania and Georgia, while defeating Trump closely in the states of Nevada and Arizona.
Biden is close to getting 270 key members' votes, from each state that determines the country's winner.
In the state of Pennsylvania, Trump's leadership in the polls dropped from 319,000 Wednesday afternoon to nearly 50,000 votes by Thursday night, with his turnout against his rival in Georgia falling from 68,000 to 2,500.
The result was expected to continue to give Biden the victory, as it comes from constituencies that normally vote for Democratic candidates, and includes the cities of Philadelphia and Atlanta.
Biden, meanwhile, witnessed his victory in the state of Arizona declining from 93 thousand votes to nearly 48,000 while leading in the state of Nevada by just 11,000 votes.
