The two dormitories have accommodation for 584 students.
Kakamega Central Central Police Station chief Daniel Mutisya said the fire was extinguished with the help of Kakamega County government firefighters.
The fire that broke out at the school is the latest in a series of fire incidents as schools are hit by student violence.
Other schools that have been hit by fires in recent weeks are Buruburu Girls 'High School, Chavakali Boys' High School in Vihiga County and Kanjuri High School in Nyeri.
