Abdalla Hamdok may be reinstated as Sudanese Prime Minister

The Sudanese army is planning to reinstate ousted prime minister Abdalla Hamdok, following weeks of riots sparked by a military coup, according to Fadallah Burma Nasir, a party leader.

Hamdok will form an independent cabinet of experts, and all detained politicians will be released under an agreement between the military and political parties, according to Nasir, who attended consultations that reached the agreement.

Activist groups that have been leading the protests since the military coup forced the military to withdraw from the political arena.

Hamdock was detained at his home when the military took over the reins of power on October 25, disrupting the democratic transition reached after the ousting of longtime dictator Omar al-Bashir in 2019.

The military overthrew the Hamdok cabinet and detained a number of high-ranking government officials under a power-sharing agreement after Bashir was ousted.
