Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been summoned by the Judicial Service Commission to testify over videos circulating online related to disputed Judge Said Chitembwe.
In a letter signed by the Registrar General Ann Amadi, the JSC instructed Sonko to appear before the commission seven days later to record his statement.
"At the same time, the commission will require him to appear in person at the JSC offices within seven working days of this matter with a view to recording your information on the circumstances surrounding the matter," the letter said.
The commission said it had been featured in several video clips, posts on social media, mobile phone records provided by Sonko in which Judge Chitembwe's conduct as a judge was questioned.
"Therefore, the JSC decided to institute a case against Chitembwe on its own merits in accordance with Article 168 of the Constitution," the commission said.
The Judicial Service Commission said it had decided to appoint a panel to hear the case.
The JSC says it will require the former governor's personal attendance to give evidence as a witness in the aforementioned case which will be heard on December 14 at 9 p.m.
However, the JSC has issued a stern warning against the call as it is an offense to violate the commission's instructions.
“Note that in accordance with the provisions of section 46 section VIII of the Judicial Service Act No. 1 of 2011, it is an offense for anyone to defy any order issued by a commission or committee, ”the commission said.
