Kirinyaga County detectives are searching for 14 students who escaped through a window on a matatu car bound for Nairobi after they were found smoking marijuana.

According to the DCI intelligence department, the students from Fred’s Grammar High School had boarded a 2NK cooperative vehicle in Karatina on their way home for a mid-term vacation.

However, when the vehicle reached the Kibingoti area on the road from Nyeri to Nairobi, driver John Maina became aware that they were smoking marijuana in the vehicle and tried to turn around towards the Sagana police station.

The students panicked and jumped out of the car as it went and disappeared.

"They jumped out of the car through a window and left bottles of drinks and other luggage inside the car," said the DCI department.

Detectives are now working with the school's headmaster to identify the students.
