The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided information and communication technology at a cost of 9 million shillings to assist in providing services to HIV victims in Embu County.

The equipment provided through the Community Implementation program will assist in the use of electronic registration at various health facilities in the county.

Tekelezi Dkt. Mutugi Muriithi said the move would help in addressing HIV and AIDS. The devices will help health care providers access information about patients and also enhance screening.

Embu County has the lowest incidence of HIV infection with a total of 10,929 people infected with the virus, thus indicating a 2.3 percent prevalence rate according to the National AIDS Control Council.

The county's chief medical officer Mary Munene praised the move, saying the system would simplify their work, especially in monitoring the progress of their patients and also ensure better treatment.
