Nineteen people died and 10 others were rescued after a bus they were traveling in sank on Enziu Mwingi River, Kitui County.

The accident happened when the bus driver tried to cross a flooded section of the river on Nguni-Nuu road.

The number of people aboard the bus transporting live people to a wedding ceremony at Nulu Catholic Church has not been determined.

Mwingi East sub-county police commander Joseph Yakan, said efforts to determine the exact number of passengers on the bus were ongoing.
