William Ruto, Kenya's Deputy President, has connected President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration to the kidnapping and torture of his blogger Dennis Itumbi.
Ruto, who is the second in power in the administration, issued a statement accusing it of orchestrating the horror that befell the vocal strategist.
He said that the assault on Itumbi that led in his hospitalization was carried out by police personnel.
"I observed his heavily bangled arm and legs," the DP said, "the outcome of torture by individuals who should have been there to protect him and us all."
The DP made the statement on a Wednesday visit to Itumbi at Nairobi West Hospital.
Ruto also accused the administration of threatening and violently repressing his followers.
After all of the bad narratives, threats, and blackmail against us failed, they have now turned violent and fatalistic, according to the statement.
Ruto is the highest-ranking government official to speak out against Itumbi's alleged kidnapping and torture.
Politicians close to the DP, like Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, have previously blamed the government for Itumbi's abduction.
