Police in Nakuru County are detaining two suspects in connection with a consignment of 20,000 liters of ethanol seized on Wednesday night.
Nakuru County Police Operations Officer Wilson Nduati said the suspected cargo, which was being transported from Busia to Nakuru, may have been imported from a neighboring country.
Nduati said police officers patrolling the roadblock on the road from Nakuru to Eldoret stopped the small truck after being tipped off by locals.
Inside the car they found a woman and a man and a man with barrels containing the chemical used to make illegal alcohol.
Officials from the DCI Criminal Investigation Department took samples of the chemical for further investigation while the KRA, the tax collection council, confirmed that the consignment had not been taxed.
The suspects are assisting police officers in the investigation into what is believed to be a conspiracy to import the illegal chemical.
