Doctors say the incidence of kidney disease has increased dramatically in the country and has caused serious harm among victims in the country.

Nakuru County Health Minister Dr. Zachary Kariuki Gichuki, said the increase in Kenyans suffering from lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, and high blood pressure has led to an increase in the incidence of kidney disease.

Dkt. Gichuki said the ignorance of the symptoms of kidney disease is another factor that contributes significantly to the increase in such cases.

Dkt. Gichuki advised Kenyans to undergo a urine test, monitor blood pressure and measure blood sugar levels so that they can be treated and avoid serious health problems.

The Nakuru County health minister said the county administration would work with experts at Kenyatta General Hospital to treat them as well as raise awareness about the symptoms of kidney disease proportionally and push for a change in lifestyle and early diagnosis of the disease.

Dkt. Gichuki was speaking at Nakuru Level 5 Special Hospital after 26 medical professionals from Kenyatta National Hospital, including 12 surgeons, performed surgery on 16 kidney patients.
